I have attached below, our Captains Report from David Beggs.  This report covers a little of our last game at Midlands and what to expect at Buninyong next Monday.

Golf and lunch for $30 and a shotgun start at 9.30am at Buninyong on Monday 11th May.

We will also be taking money ($30) for our game at Belvoir Park (Bendigo) to be played on the following Monday (18th May).  Those Vets who have already committed to going, we require payment to be paid at Buninyong (or for you to contact our treasurer to arrange alternative methods). We currently have 44 Ballarat Veteran golfers taking on the Central Vet golfers and would welcome even more Ballarat Vets to come along.

Captains Report

It was great to see 80 members turn up at Midlands for the first round of our Championships.  This was a huge improvement from last year, when we unfortunately had to cancel D grade due to a lack of numbers.  Here’s hoping that we can continue to build and get an even stronger turnout at Buninyong.

To date 52 members have indicated that they will be attending next Monday, and I have attached a preliminary “Draft” draw that represents those people. If you are in the draw then you have indicated you will be attending.  If your name is not listed, please contact me with the usual information, i.e.  walking or cart, preferred playing partners and GA Numbers.

I have players in BLACK as walkers and players in RED in carts.  Please feel free to contact me if there are any issues.

Just as a reminder, my email address is david.s.beggs@gmail.com and my phone number; 0419 417 896. (An incorrect phone number was published in an earlier message so please take note of the correct number and put me on your speed dial!)

At Buninyong we will once again have our daily STABLEFORD competition with the number of grades depending on how many turn up.  We are keen to have a lady’s grade should we get sufficient players; however, I am aware that there is a clash with Pennant.

Naturally there will be the usual NTP’s, Longest Drives, Longest Putt, Straightest Drive and Ferrets to test your skills. The more people who take home a prize the happier I am!

For the Championships, A and B Grades will be playing Stroke off the Black Tees while C and D Grades will be playing Stableford off the Green Tees with their handicaps adjusted accordingly.  There were some handicap issues at Midlands that were out of our control, but I believe this will be fixed for our game at Buninyong.

This is the first time that we have tried the separate tees in one of our events.  It came about following discussions with some of our shorter hitters at the longer courses, and most recently at Chalambar where some members found it quite challenging.  Given that Vets Golf is meant to be enjoyable (while rewarding good golf) I decided to try the 2-tee system at Midlands, however we had mixed success so this is a matter that will be reviewed prior to future events (hoping that this issue is resolved with the adjusted handicap being utilised at Buninyong).

MiScore will again be used at Buninyong for members who have the FULL VERSION, that is; members who pay the $20 a year that allows you to use the APP anywhere in Australia.  Anyone who does not have the full app can of course still use a scorecard.

In relation to Golf Carts, most cart owners are happy to give a ride if there is a spare seat, and I can usually accommodate most requests.  Please note that Buninyong has 30 carts that they will hire out to Vets for the discounted price of $40, being a $10 discount. Please contact the club should you require a cart.

Here’s hoping for a very enjoyable outing next Monday.
